UTXO Wrong Chain Recoveries
This process is applicable to the following coins/tokens:
Bitcoin
Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Gold
Litecoin
Note: For this process, the missing funds must be in a BitGo wallet. If not, please refer to this article
Recovery Steps:
Step 1: Navigate into the correct environment by selecting one of the following:
Testnet
Mainnet
Step 2: Select “Wrong Chain Recoveries” on the right side and fill out the following information:
- Source Coin: This is the coin you sent to the wrong address. For example, if you sent BTC to an LTC address, this is BTC.
- Destination Coin: This is the type of coin that received the source coin. For example, if you sent BTC to an LTC address, this is LTC.
- Wallet ID: This is the wallet on the destination coin's chain that the source coin was accidentally sent to. In the example, this is an LTC wallet.
- Transaction ID: This is the transaction ID(s) of the transaction(s) that were sent to the LTC wallet. In this example, these are the BTC transaction(s).
- Destination Address: This is the address that your recovery transaction will be sent to. For this example, the destination address is a BTC address.
- API Key: An API key for Blockchair. This is needed to query for un-spents from the source coin transaction
- Wallet Passphrase: This is the wallet passphrase of the destination coin wallet. You can leave this blank if you have a private key. For this example, the wallet passphrase is from the LTC wallet.
- Private Key: This is the private key (xprv) of the wallet that received the source coin. If you have a wallet passphrase, the key is not needed. For this example, the private key is from the LTC wallet.
After inputting all the necessary information, select “Recover Funds” to initiate the recovery transaction. Users must then initiate the cosigning process with BitGo (as detailed below).
Cosigning (REQUIRED)
The recovery process above generates a half-signed JSON file. Users must share the JSON file with support@bitgo.com without making any changes to the content or file format. BitGo Support will co-sign it with the BitGo key
When submitting the half-signed JSON, please include the following details in your message:
- Source Coin (the coin you sent to the wrong address)
- Destination Coin (the coin type of the wallet that received it)
- Wallet ID (the destination coin wallet ID)
- Transaction ID(s) of the original wrong-chain transaction(s)
- Recovery/Destination Address (where recovered funds should be sent)
- Recovery Amount (if known)
Providing these details upfront helps BitGo Support process your recovery faster..
