Getting Started with Setup of BitGo Verify

This article explains how to download and set up the BitGo Verify mobile app for approving transactions and policy changes.

All authentication methods are initially configured in the BitGo platform (app.bitgo.com) and can then be used in the app to log in and process pending transactions.
After successfully logging in to the BitGo Verify app for the first time, you may add, delete or modify all authentication methods within the app going forward.
If you have existing authentication methods established, BitGo Verify will not require a separate authentication setup.
BitGo Verify supports multiple secure login methods:
- Passkeys (recommended)
  - Software-based
  - Hardware security key (e.g., Yubikey and other FIDO2-Compatible Keys)
- Two-factor authentication or 2FA (email, password + OTP) - it may be helpful to install and use password manager and authenticator mobile apps approved by your own IT/Security teams.
BitGo Verify provides the additional functionality of adding a mobile passkey using biometrics.

BitGo allows for two types of passkeys
- A software-based passkey, e.g., Passwords app (iOS), Google Password Manager (Android), Samsung Pass (Android), etc., and
- A physical security key, e.g., Yubikey.

Set up a new passkey on the BitGo platform (app.bitgo.com).
Access your profile in the top right corner and navigate to:
- Account Settings > Authentication > Passkey > Add a Passkey.
Click Continue when prompted to create a passkey.
When prompted to enter your 2FA code, click Enter OTP instead (above the Continue button).
Enter your 2FA code from your TOTP authenticator app and click Continue.
Name your passkey.
Select Save another way when prompted and select Use a phone, tablet, or security key.
Open the Camera app on your phone and scan the QR code.
Click the link and save the passkey to your device when prompted.
- For Android: if you have a work profile you must use the work camera.
Verify that the passkey has been successfully saved to your device.
- On an Andriod: Settings > Passwords, Passkeys & Accounts,
- On an iOS 18 or later device: go to the Passwords app, or
- On an iOS 17 or earlier device: Settings > Passwords > bitgo.com.

If you logged into BitGo Verify with 2FA, i.e., email, password and OTP, for the first time you will:

Be prompted to create a passkey then guided to the Authentication page in Settings.
Passkey setup can then be completed on the app.

Set up a new security key on the BitGo platform (app.bitgo.com).
Access your profile in the top right corner and navigate to:
- Account Settings > Authentication > Passkey > Add a Passkey.
Click Continue when prompted to create a passkey.
When prompted to enter your 2FA code, click Enter OTP instead (above the Continue button).
Enter your 2FA code from your TOTP authenticator app and click Continue.
Name your passkey.
Select Save another way when prompted and select Use a phone, tablet, or security key.
Insert your Yubikey (or any compatible FIDO2 device) into your laptop, touch it or tap it on your phone if NFC-enabled, to indicate that you wish to use it.
Touch/tap your security key again to confirm setup.
Enter a pin for your security key.
Select Next.
Verify that your security key has been successfully set up in the Authentication section.

Set up a new 2FA authenticator app on the BitGo platform (app.bitgo.com).
Access your profile in the top right corner and navigate to:
- Account Settings > 2-Factor Authentication > Add a 2FA Method.
Select Time Window as your 2FA method.
Scan the QR code using any TOTP-compatible authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy).
Enter the 6-digit code generated by the authenticator app into the BitGo platform to confirm set up.
Verify that your 2FA method has been successfully set up in the 2-Factor Authentication section.
